BACKGROUND: Mankind currently exists in something referred to as the H Age where all weaponry no longer exists. Conflicts are instead settled through the use of objects called Hypnosis Microphones, which uses the power of spoken word to inflict damage upon the human body through the nervous system. Various areas of Japan are separated and then represented by groups of men called "divisions", and these divisions use their own designated Hypnosis Mics to battle each other in rap wars in order to conquer turf, all while women are in power who designate these battles.
Rosho Tsutsujimori grew up with parents who were both school teachers, and so he was raised under a lot of pressure to be studious, participating in cram school and urged to constantly study. It's because of this upbringing that around the age of 19 Rosho grew a bit of a rebellious streak and started acting more like a punk. However, he decided he wanted to become a comedian, even though his taste in humor was so abstract that no one seemed to even understand his jokes let alone laugh at them. Eventually he came to meet Sasara Nurude, another aspiring comedian, and together the two decided to form a duo. Unfortunately their time together did not last as Rosho came to feel as if he was burdening Sasara and couldn't perform to expectations, and not only did this develop into an intense case of glossophobia (stage fright) that would always remain with him, he decided to leave the group.
Now at the age of 26, Rosho is a teacher himself, and though he still suffers from his phobia, he takes his job very seriously. When Sasara Nurude, now a stand-up comedian, receives a letter that he shall be representing the region of Osaka in the next division rap battle, he finds Rosho in attempts to have him join him as a team member for the group he'll need to gather, much to Rosho's displeasure. It is when the two come across Rei Amayado, a conman with a strange background, the two battle him together and thus decide to form their group with Rei, called Dotsuitare Honpo.
PERSONALITY: Some people just sort of become the way they are naturally. Others, like Tsutsujimori Rosho, become who they are through outside influence. Initially in his life he started out as a regular kid, albeit with a grand amount of pressure to succeed and do well with the successful backgrounds his parents had as teachers, and so as he aged, teenage rebellion began to spring forth. Rosho had the appearance of a punk and a rather nasty "don't fuck with me" glare to go along with it. However deep down, Rosho was a kind person with a compassion to consider others and never want to see people looked down on or underestimated. It's very easy to give Rosho one look and assume he has a pompous, rude attitude, but ultimately if he sees you slighted he will gladly jump in to your defenses. Rosho is there to be the support system that anyone needs, and perhaps it was his strict upbringing that put that thought into his head that clearly stuck, that you could have the ambition to do whatever you wanted as long as you worked hard enough at it. Rosho's original ambition was to become a comedian, for while there existed many in the world, none seemed to have the sort of humor that appealed to him. And what do you do when there isn't a market for what you're into? Well, you create it yourself. Unfortunately for Rosho his form of humor makes no sense to anyone except himself, so his jokes kind of fall upon deaf ears when he tries to tell them.
He didn't seem to have the makings of a comedian, but to Sasara Nurude, he seemed to be a perfect partner: the tsukkomi (straight man) to his boke (funny man). Jokes came naturally to Sasara, and upon finding that the rather intimidating figure at his first series of auditions was actually a pretty okay guy, willing to defend fellow auditioners from the rather dismissive behavior of their judges, the two found themselves easily cooperating together, and so their partnership began. While Rosho wasn't necessarily a fan of Sasara's humor, his ambition was doubtless, and together they were even able to make a group of strangers in a dinner uproar in laughter. After a few successful rounds at a talent show, it seemed their duo was destined to succeed. But Rosho wanted to find worth in his own skills, not just what came through Sasara's assistance. And this is where things sadly went sour. In an effort to try to stand out on his own, Rosho attempts a joke for their audience. It falls flat. Steadily, Rosho begins to see his own short-comings, but instead of focusing on the inspiration from his partner, he crumbles at the pressure.
Rosho is an intelligent person, very ambitious and persistent in what he wants, but if there is anything he struggles with the most it's his own self-confidence. Groups of faces can nearly bring him to tears as he panics and flusters upon the pressure to impress, and it puts him right back on that stage at that talent show where he was faced with the reality of a simple failing, but back then, it'd been a realization that his dreams could never be real. Worse of all, he was excess baggage, and to remain Sasara's partner would only lead to failure. Soon he makes the decision to break up their duo, and Rosho would never aim for that same dream ever again. His stage fright still lingers as an adult, but with his new career as a teacher, he tries to find it in himself to push through the anxiety, as difficult as it is. Thankfully he has gained a group of very understanding students (that actually kind of consider his behavior to be endearing) which helps his issues go by a little more smoothly. In fact, in person conversations with a student tend to work out very well, it's simply group settings that he just can't handle well.
Even with Rosho's perceived failings, he is still that steadfast teenager he'd been years ago, fighting for the sake of someone's honor, their dreams and goals. When one of his students takes interest in a talent agency that could help with her career dreams, Rosho takes it upon himself to investigate the agency for her, and upon discovering the whole thing is a scam, becomes incredibly angered. He still retains a bit of a short fuse, especially when it comes down to the feeling of being betrayed or lied to, but Rosho has the good sense to try to protect not just himself but the people around him. When Sasara confronts him with the option to become part of a team together in the next division rap battle, Rosho has his doubts. After all, he still sees himself as a burden, especially in Sasara's eyes. It isn't until they find themselves facing down the same obstacle, the mysterious head of this "agency" known as Rei Amayado, that Rosho realizes he'll have to agree to Sasara's terms and work with him again. Struggles will always be a part of your life, whether through outside sources or from yourself, but it's easier to handle those struggles with a bit of extra help from a friend than all on your own.
POWERS/ABILITIES: With the use of his Hypnosis Microphone, Rosho is shown to have a decent capability of power with his raps, though his phobia does become a nuisance, such as when he clearly begins to fumble with the opening to his solo part in the group song "Ah, Osaka Dreamin' Night." It isn't until Sasara joins him to help that Rosho gains the confidence to begin and continue with a solid rhythm.
Rosho is otherwise a very normal human being (aside from his intense stage fright) with what is probably an extensive assortment of knowledge under his belt, having parents who were school teachers and becoming a teacher himself as an adult.
